In the Aber Valley there are those that help their neighbours, support local groups and regularly go out of their way for others in the community.

Please download the Community Award Nomination Form (PDF) which should be returned by no later than Wednesday 13th July 2016 to:

Sharon Hughes, Aber Valley Community Council, Abertridwr Library, Aberfawr Road, Abertridwr, CF83 4EJ

We will then notify the winners and invite them to the Community Council Presentation Evening to be held in September 2016, where they will be presented with their award.  The names of the winners will then be engraved onto the plaques, which are displayed in Abertridwr Community Centre and Senghenydd Community Centre.

Waste disposal reminder

The council is reminding residents it is their responsibility to ensure their wsate is disposed of correctly.

Recently, a number of individuals have faced prsoecution, after paying unlicensed disposal companies to dispose of waste - which subsequently hadn't been disposed of corrrectly, with it often being fly-tipped. Offenders of fly-tipping can face fines of uo to £50,000 and/or imprisonment.

Residents are also being warned against dumping waste outside recycling centres on the days they are closed as such incidents will be treated as instances of fly-tipping and investigated in the same way.

Each recycling centre is closed one day a week:

  • Trehir (Closed Thursday)
  • Penmaen (Closed Tuesday)
  • Full Moon (Closed Sunday(
  • Rhymney (Closed Tuesday)
  • Penallta (Closed Wednesday)
  • Aberbargoed (Closed Thursday)

Recycling centres are open 9am to 5.30pm between 1st April and 30th September and 9am to 4.30pm between 1st October and 31st March. Centres are open as normal on bank holidays but closed on Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year's Day.
