Bargoed is located on the main route leading north through the Rhymney Valley to the A 465 Head of the Valleys road from Ystrad Mynach.  It has a direct rail service to Cardiff Central and Penarth in the south and the town of Rhymney in the north.

The town is located in an elevated position on the side of the Rhymney valley and is surrounded by beautiful countryside and accessible parklands - with Parc Cwm Darren to the north and the newest country park, Parc Coetir Bargod, on its doorstep.  An integrated transport scheme for the area links road and rail. A cycleway has been constructed along the valley floor adjacent to the River Rhymney and footpath.

Bargoed is currently at the centre of a huge regeneration scheme, which includes the £25 million new road (Angel Way) and improvements to the highway network between the neighbouring communities.  The scheme also includes far reaching proposals to transform the town centre.
