Bargoed is benefiting from a new Heath Centre. United Welsh Housing Association has transformed the former Job Centre at Gilfach Street with a £1.6 million investment. The 3-storey building was purchased by United Welsh with £1.1 million support through the Heads of the Valleys Programme and it has been leased to Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust.

The clinic was located above Bargoed’s library on The Square and these facilities are being demolished to pave the way for the new retail development plateau and to assist in creating the pedestrian linkage between the Hanbury Square and the new development.

The conversion was completed in the Winter 2008. Architects Davies, Llewelyn & Jones designed it to include increased glazing on the south facing elevation and complete recladding of the exterior. The new cladding will not only provide a weather-proof exterior, but it has also given this Seventies building a modern, clean image suitable for the new Health Centre.

The lease has been signed between United Welsh and the Aneurin Bevan Health Board and the handover took place in December 2008.
