Living History

Influenced by the origins of Christmas in the 18th century and one of the castles most influential owners, the 3rd Marquess of Bute, Cadw will be embracing a “Victorian Christmas” whereby Caerphilly Castle will be transformed back to a Victorian fairytale full of decadence and romance. Step inside the castle walls to discover a Victorian age brimming with exciting living history, combat sessions and traders from far and wide, offering a wide range of local produce and gifts.

Along with free entry for children, the event’s traditional fairground rides, smells of mulled wine and a special visit from Father Christmas will create a magical experience for visitors to discover.

Entertainers

If you're got more 'Bah! humbug' than Scrooge you could probably benefit from a boost to the Christmas spirit.  Come and meet  Caerphilly Castle's jester who'll have many a joke and merry tale.

Don't miss out on the live performers  either , including music and dancing as the Crafty Beggars  wheel their cart around  the castle and the Mirage Mummers act out their unique plays throughout the weekend  and don't forget to look out for the dancing bear, back by popular demand.

Traders

We defy you to be stuck for Christmas pressie ideas after stepping through the Castle gates! Browse amongst the wonderful stands for inspiration which include  mystical sculpture and jewellery, shields and swords,  honey products, medieval leatherworks, glass stalls and  gifts from Europe and Italy!

Christmas shopping can also get the appetite racing and there's plenty of seasonal food to tempt the tastebuds, including  hot mulled wine and brimming bowls of hearty stew. Other food stalls include Pig in a Bun, Frantastic Crepes, and Martin's Jerked Meats.

Christmas just wouldn't be the same either without a visit to Father Christmas who'll be visiting the Castle over the weekend..
