Protection of Vulnerable Adults

Following a decision of Caerphilly Local Service Board, Protection Of Vulnerable Adults has been included within community planning since September 2008.

Caerphilly County Borough Council provides a POVA team which gives advice regarding safeguarding vulnerable adults at risk of or experiencing abuse and neglect. The POVA team receives all referrals of abuse and neglect of vulnerable adults living in the Caerphilly borough and coordinates a multi agency response to ensure immediate protection measures are put in place, that the allegation is investigated and recommendations are made to prevent further abuse to the victim or other vulnerable adults. We work closely with our health, Police and regulation partners and the third sector and care providers to ensure safe services are provided in the borough. The team works to implement the good practice guidance set out in the Wales Interim POVA Policy and Procedures for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults (Dec 2012).

The POVA team works closely with the regional safeguarding board - the Gwent Wide Adult Safeguarding Board. We are represented at the Board and each of the subgroups: Training and Awareness, Serious Case Review, Quality Assurance, Policy and Research and the Gwent POVA Coordinators group.
