Giant's Court - CP1
Car Park 1 - Giant's Court

Giant’s Court is named after Ysbaddaden Pencawr, king of the giants in the Arthurian legend Culhwch ac Olwen that is included in The Mabinogion (a famous collection of 11 medieval Welsh folk tales). You can see Ysbaddaden standing at the base of our natural amphitheatre where we hold events. You can read a summary of the story on the obelisk in front of the giant.
Risca School pupils designed the Culhwch ac Olwen sculptures you can see around the car park. John Hobbs, a woodcarver, turned their ideas into these sculptures.
The Green Warrior
The appearance of a ghostly green warrior to anyone walking in the Nantcarn Valley is believed by many to foretell the death within the year of the person encountering the apparition. The ghost is believed to be that of a Celtic Warrior (sometimes accompanied by other warriors) returning from battling with the Romans.
