Waste Free Challenge

Challenge yourself and become Waste Free

The Waste Free Challenge is a new initiative run by Caerphilly County Borough Council.

To take part, all you need to do is reduce the amount of waste you produce.  It's easy to make small changes which altogether can make a big difference to the amount of waste you put out for collection.

By choosing items with less packaging, trying washable nappies instead of disposables, composting at home and wasting less food you can significantly reduce your waste.

If you would like to challenge yourself over a 4 week period, please download the Waste Free Challenge booklet.  Inside you will find a 4 week Record Sheet and a Waste Challenge Diary, which you can complete and send by:

Email: kirken@caerphilly.gov.uk

or

Post: Nicole Kirke, Waste Management, Unit B5, Tir-y-Berth Depot, New Road, Hengoed, CF82 8AU.

For excellent ideas please watch the video below of our 3 families who kindly volunteered to take part in the trial of the challenge.

We understand everyone’s circumstances are different and it’s ok if you do still produce some waste, however we hope that you will see a dramatic reduction in the amount you throw away; even small changes make a big difference!
