Risca gives medics a rousing welcome home

03 March 2014

Thousands of residents and visitors lined the streets of Risca on St David's Day to cheer the heroic medics of the 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital Unit.

The squadron received a heroes' welcome as they marched through the town in an event to mark the unit's homecoming following a tour of Afghanistan as part of Operation HERRICK.

The event was organised by Caerphilly County Borough Council, the 203 (Welsh) Field Hospital unit's designated partner for the Armed Forces Community Covenant Scheme.

The parade and medal ceremony was generously sponsored by the Tesco, Spar and Aldi stores in Risca, as well as the Tesco store in Ystrad Mynach. Risca Primary School kindly hosted the troops prior to the parade and medal ceremonies taking place.

You can browse photographs of the parade through Risca in the gallery below.
