Councillor vacancy Oct 2017

Following interviews for the Ty Isaf Ward Councillor vacancy held at November 2017 Full Council, the Town Council decided to co-opt local resident Brian Davies of 4 Maryland Road, Risca to its Council,  Briad Davies was formally invited to attend and join the Council at its meeting on 8 January 2018. Bands in the Park summer 2017

Council Elections May 2017

The local council elections took place on 4 May 2017 and the seven uncontested Town Council Members met as a new Council on Mon 15 May 2017 for a new term of five years. Cllr Louise Stephens was electe as Mayor. The Council are considering co-opting an eighth Town Council Member over the next few weeks. The Town Council were very pleased to be joined by the two, newly elected Caerphilly county borouugh councillors for the Risca Town Ward, Cllr Bob Owen and Cllr Ross Whiting. 'Aladdin' Pantomime10/11 December 2016

Risca Town and Risca East held their joint, annual Christmas pantomime event at Risca Primary School.  All four perfrmances by Kate Poole Productions were very well received by those Risca residents, their families and guests who attended.  The early feedback reports to both Councils were that the event was very successful and the chlldren thoroughly enjoyed it. Christmas Festive Lighting 2016

Risca Town Council has arranged and funded its Christmas lighting units, located on the street lighting columns along Commercial Street and Tredegar Street, for the 2016 Festive Season.  The festive lighting in the Town Centre is set to coincide with Caerphilly county borough's Christmas Fayre today 26 November in Tredegar Park and the switching on of their Christmas Tree lights this evening. Armistice Service 11 November 2016

Risca Town and Risca East Councils held their Armistice Service at Moriah Church, Tredegar Street, Risca on the evening of Friday 11 November.  Over 400 residents congregated to join in the Service with excellent contributions by Moriah Church, Risca Male Choir, Crosskeys Silver Band, Ty Sign Primary School, Risca Primary School, Risca comprehensive School, both Risca Town and Risca East Councils' Chairpersons, Risca Royal British Legion and their Chaplain The Ven,J Blackburn, Risca Air Cadets and Cheryl Hood of the Queen Alexandra's Royal Army Nursing Corps. Summer Flower Baskets 2016

The Town Council's funded summer flower baskets project was successfully in place along Tredegar Street and Commercial Street from early June to late September . All the hanging baskets' brackets, located on the street lighting columns, have been replaced to adequately support the new flower arrangements The basket arrangements were enjoyrd by the townsfolk and our visitors. Summer Fayre

The Caerphilly Council's Summer Fayre with its 'Disney' theme was held in Tredegar Park on Sat 9 July and Risca Town and Risca East Councils contributed to the fun with a marquee, treasure hunt game and a tea party for nine Risca residents of 90 years old to add to the Queen's Birthday celebrations.  It was a very successful day. Bands in the Park for summer 2016

Unfortunately, due to the heavy rain the first summer event of the Town Council, the Band in the Tredegar Park on Sunday 19 June had to be cancelled.  Also, unfortunately, the second date for the Band for Sun 21 August was also cancelled due to the inclement weather. Tredegar Park summer months Sundays' toilet block opening, 2016

The Town Council in association with Risca East Community Council have agreed to fund the Park's toilet block opening on each Sunday commencing 12 June and extended to the end of September. (Bob Campbell, Town Clerk, on 1 July)

Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations, 2016

The Town Council in association with Risca East Community Council are asking for names of Risca residents who share the Queen's birthday and who were born in 1926.  As part of the Queen's birthday celebrations we wish to invite those nonagenarians to a tea party in the summer. Queen's 90th Birthday Celebrations - Beacon on Twmbarlwm

The Town Council in Association with The Twmbarlwm Society lit a Beacon on Twmbarlwm as part of the Queen's birthday celebrations that took place across the United Kingdom on Thursday 21 April. It was a very succesful evening. (Bob Campbell, Town Clerk, updated on 3 May)

Snowden Close, Ty-Sign - Village Green status application

The Town Council has been notified by Caerphilly county borough council's Legal Services that an application for 'village green' status at Snowdon Close has been received and is being advertised.  A copy of the 'notice and plan' is availabe for residents to see up to 5 May 2016 on the Town Council's notice boards at Risca Palace Library and in Tredegar Park. Town Council Precept on Band D Housing rate for 2016/2017

Caerphilly county borough council had requested the Council to submit its Precept figure by mid February 2016 for the coming financial year 2016/17.  As the Council’s base Band D figure of £15 a year had remained the same since the Council was formed in early 2013 and with more public services being asked of the Council the Councillors decided that the Precept figure for next financial year, again based on the Council Tax for Band D Housing, is to raise by £2.50 to £17.50. (Bob Campbell, Town Clerk 16 Mar 2016)

Defibrillators in the town centre

The Town Council has recently purchased two new defibrillators (for just under £2,000) for use at the local Spar store and at Risca Rugby Club after consulting Risca St John's Ambulance. (Bob Campbell, Town Clerk 3 Feb 2016)   

Christmas Pantomime 4, 5 and 6 December 2015

The local Cuckoo Club presented the Pantomime on three evenings at St Mary's Church Hall. The events were again, successfully jointly arranged and funded as a project by both Risca Town and Risca East Community Councils. (Bob Campbell Town Clerk 3 Feb 2016)

Risca Royal British Legion Armistice Service 2015

Here is a photo taken at the Risca Royal British Legion organised Armistice Service at the Risca Cenotaph Park. A wreath was laid on behalf of Risca Town Council by Mayor, Cllr Stephen Tom.  (Bob Campbell, Town Clerk)

 

 

15 September 2015 - Risca Town Council at its meeting of Tuesday 8 September have decided to arrange for and fund the Town's Festive Lighting at a cost of about £3,000 for December 2015.  25 of the Town's existing Festive Lighting units plus the purchase of one new unit are expected to be erected for a period of 33 days.  The Council will consider its funding options for Christmas 2016 earlier next year.
