Both drug and alcohol abuse can be ruinous to an individual and to the wider community. They are complex issues that can be linked to crime, poverty, homelessness, the break up of families and even death.
Targeting substance misuse is one of the key priorities of the Safer Caerphilly Community Safety Partnership because it can result in so many social ills, as well as the obvious harm to the individual engaging in substance misuse.
A Substance Misuse Action Team (SMAT) has subsequently been set up to work to reduce substance misuse throughout the Caerphilly county borough through a combination of education, prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
