Forest Schools

Forest Schools has been developing throughout Wales since 1999, based on a Danish model adapted by Bridgewater College.

The Forest Schools Scheme offers cildren and young peeople opportunities to develop confidence and self-esteem through hands on learning experiences in a local woodland environment. Through mastering small achievable tasks the children's self esteem and independance skills develop.

Key features of a Forest School:

  • The use of a natural outdoor environment
  • Child led approach to children's learning which is fun and relaxed
  • Allows every child to have a voice, especially those who find it difficult to communicate in a more conventional learning environment
  • Supports personalised learning
  • Builds children's confidence and self-esteem as they are responsible for making their own decisions and are carefully supported to achieve

A Forest School programme is a fun way to introduce children to a natural world.
