From the A465 (Heads of the Valleys) Road

Turn off the A465, onto the A469 signposted towards Rhymney.  At each of the two following roundabouts, follow signs for Bargoed.

Continue on this road for approximately four miles, past Butetown and through Pontlottyn until you see a sign for Tirphil. Keep on this road and it will take you directly into New Tredegar.

From the direction of Caerphilly

From the direction of Caerphilly, take the A469 towards Ystrad Mynach and Bargoed.  Stay on the A469, bypassing Bargoed and follow signs for Aberbargoed and then New Tredegar.

New Tredegar

Once in New Tredegar, follow the brown signs for ‘Elliot Colliery Winding House’. There is a small car park with acccessible parking bays in front of the museum.

There is also a large overflow car park which you can access from the main road. From there, it is a short walk over the pedestrian footbridge to the museum.

Maps & Satellite Navigation

If you are using Satellite Navigation or maps, please note that the road system in New Tredegar has recently changed due to the construction of a bypass road.  However, if you follow your map / satellite navigation as far as New Tredegar, the brown signs for ‘Elliot Colliery Winding House’ will get you there easily!
