About Us

After the disbanding of Bedwas and Machen Urban District Council and it being absorbed into the larger Authority, the remaining Members successfully fought for the establishment of a Community Council and the retention of the Council Offices so that elected Councillors could truly represent the people of BTM at a local level.

Their prime concern was that the voice of local people should be heard in the democratic process. In the recent Election every seat in all three Wards of the Community was contested which proves that democracy is alive and well in BTM.

The elected Councillors can be confident that they have the support of the people and can take on the responsibility of providing a service to the Community. We thank the Voters of BTM for turning out in such high numbers and expressing their concern for the well-being for their community and we promise to represent you without fear or favour.

Situated as we are, in close proximity to Cardiff, Newport and the M4, BTM is a popular location and the demand for new housing and schools will grow.

It is vital therefore that we keep careful watch on local services.  Both Bedwas and Trethomas have busy shopping areas and we are always mindful of the need to foster local trade despite the traffic which will continue to be a problem, especially because the A 468 passes through these villages.
There are six schools maintained by the Local Authority and we take an active part in the running of them, ensuring that the buildings are fit for purpose and the standard of learning is maintained.

We also keep in touch with residents to help them when they need advice, both individually and collectively, and you can contact your Councillor confidentially through the office.

Councillor Surgeries are being set-up in the various Wards (look out for the posters).
