Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund 2019-20

Local Organisations from Deri, Fochriw, Groesfaen and Pentwyn wishing to apply for consideration for funding support from the Darran Valley Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund 2019-20 should complete and return their application form to Mrs Gina Jones, Community Development Manager - Caerphilly, Gwent Association of Voluntary Organisations, Caerphilly Office, Tir-y-berth Village Hall, Horner Street, Tir-y-berth, Hengoed, CF82 9AJ by the closing date Tuesday 31st December 2019.

Christmas Street Lighting 2019-20

The Community Council is pleased to once again confirm Festive Street Lighting for 2019-20. This will include the dressing of the Tree in Deri and installation of x10 figurines in Fochriw, Pentwyn Groesfaen. Lights will be illuminated daily from 2nd December 2019 and until 3rd January 2020, between the hours of 4pm and midnight. 

Grant Aid 2019-20

Darran Valley Community Council Section 19 and 137 Grant Aid for 2019-20

Owing to the potential for unforeseen bi-election expenditure, a consequence of a Community Councillor resignation at the July 2019 meeting of Council, Council has deferred a decision on operating a granting programme until the outcome of the 'casual vacancy process' in better understood. In the interim to a decision, Council wish to draw attention to Round-2 of the Wind Turbine Community Benefit Fund to be operated on Council's behalf by colleagues at GAVO this Autumn. More information to follow in November.

Summer Scheme August 2019

The Community Council is pleased to announce that working in partnership with Caerphilly Adventures, it is able to once again organise a tailored scheme for 8-12 Years Olds this Summer.

Come and join us for some adrenaline fueled adventure. Two week of fun activities and it’s absolutely free, although booking is essential. All you need is a packed lunch and change of clothes. For more information on how to secure your place please click here

Gelligaer & Merthyr Common - Volunteer Group

We are pleased to announce a volunteer group will officially start in April. Volunteer sessions will be held on the last Wednesday of each month followed by a quarterly weekend event.

Volunteer Group Events

The volunteer group has been up and running since April and it has been a great addition to the project. We have undertaken a wide variety of tasks and met members of the local community who are willing to help manage the fantastic landscape that is Gelligaer & Merthyr common. There are several brilliant volunteers that attend regularly but we would love to see new faces. Please see below for forthcoming volunteer sessions:

 

Date: Wednesday 2nd October 2019

Time: 09.30am – 12.00am

Location: Meet at the main cross roads (pipeline / gallop) on Cefn Gelligaer. Look out for a black Izuzu truck.

Activity: Litter Pick

Please bring/wear: Please wear appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.

Remarks: Tea, Coffee and biscuits will be on offer after the event. If you require further information please email volunteering@gmcommon.org

Location: Layby opposite Craig Cemetery. Look out for a black Isuzu truck parked up. A map of the meeting location can be found here.

If you have a particular area of the common that you feel needs looking at during a volunteer session whether that is litter picking, drystone walling, footpath maintenance or other countryside skills then please get in touch. We want input from those who are prepared to volunteer.
