Q: What about the childcare and school hubs for critical workers?
A:Coronavirus School and Childcare Assistance for Critical workers
We are accepting applications for school and childcare hub placements for children where all adults in the family home are critical to the COVID-19 response and must be in the workplace so the children cannot be safely cared for at home. Every child who can be safely cared for at home should be, and only where there is no safe alternative should you apply.
You will need to submit evidence that you are a Coronavirus key (critical) worker as defined by the U.K. government https://gov.wales/coronavirus-key-critical-workers

The school hub places are currently available Monday to Friday between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm from a range of sites across the borough for children aged 5-14 years:
  • Bedwas Comprehensive School – FULL – additional Caerphilly school hub being developed
  • Blackwood Primary School
  •  Idris Davies School
  •  Lewis School Pengam
  • Risca Community Comprehensive School – FULL – additional school hub being explored
  • Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhymni - Gelli Haf
  • St James Primary
  • Rhiw sir Dafydd
*Please note that all sites cater for primary and secondary aged pupils.

Registered Childcare providers are also working with us to provide supported childcare places for eligible essential worker households. Childcare providers are across the borough with a range of opening hours and will be able to meet the needs of younger children 0-4years, as well as some older siblings.
We endeavour to process and confirm applications as soon as possible, however please allow up to 5 working days. Please do not just turn up to a hub / childcare placement as we need to ensure that children and young people are safely managed.
