Christmas Lighting

Due to cut backs within Caerphilly County Borough Council,  from December 2015 Gelligaer Community Council will be funding and coordinating the installation of Christmas lighting throughout all our wards: Cefn Hengoed, Hengoed, Cascade, Gelligaer, Tiryberth & Ystrad Mynach.

Ystrad Mynach Christmas Fayre 2015

Again due to cut backs within Caerphilly County Borough Council, Gelligaer Community Council stepped in to part fund and assist in coordinating this year's Christmas Fayre, which was a huge success. There was local entertainment throughout the day,  street entertainers, very well behaved donkeys  to fuss over, snow ... yes snow, quite a flurry of it on times, a hog roast prepared by our local Butcher, an array of interesting and affordable stalls and of course our shops crammed full of lovely Christmas gifts and our welcoming cafes and eateries. Let us not forget Santa, who delighted children (and adults alike!!) in his grotto from dawn 'til dusk and then again by counting down to the big switch on of the Christmas lights.

A BIG THANK YOU from Cllr Martyn James, Cllr Alan Angel, the Clerk Ceri Mortimer, Chairrman, Cllr Teresa Parry & Members of Gelligaer Community Council to the following for their help:

Dave at Emlyn Lloyd for donating the Christmas tree, from his own garden!! He says he has a few more to come down, so he may see us alright for the next few years!! Thank you too to Friends of Lewis Girls for selling refreshments in Siloh Church.   Also thank you to Graham Monkley and his elves Sophie Thomas & Catrin James and Tesco for providing Santa with 300 selection boxes to give to the children. In fact, Santa ran out, and we had to purchase more not to disappoint!!

Our retailers for their generosity in donating raffle prizes: Bluebells, CR Flowers, Good Hair Studio, Gelligaer Community Council, Veg of Evans,      Andrew Berry Jewelly (whose gift voucher will be raffled in our Pantomime at Lewis Girls on Sunday 20th December 2015) and New Foundation.

Student of Lewis Girls and Cwm Rhymni school who volunteered their time stewarding the event, as a part of their Welsh Baccalaureate.

A huge thank you to Stacy Francis, CCBC Events Officer, who was responsible for coordinating the event in the main,  and her stewards Colin Geake, Matthew Gurmin & Rubecca Clinch.
