ESDGC for Youth

ESDGC in youth work is about a shift in approach with the aim of enriching and enhancing youth work practice, shedding light on young people’s lives, contributing to their personal development and increasing their confidence and self esteem.

The youth work sector currently delivers a good range of activity and the ESDGC youth toolkit will hopefully build on this to encourage ESDGC to be incorporated at all levels of the youth work sector.

ESDGC Youth Toolkit

The ESDGC Youth Toolkit for the youth work sector has been developed to support youth leaders incorporating ESDGC into the youth work sector and to support youth workers incorporating ESDGC into the youth work curriculum.

ESDGC Youth Award Scheme

The ESDGC Youth Award Scheme has been developed to support youth groups working on environmental and sustainable projects as part of the youth work curriculum.

The ESDGC Youth Award Scheme, the first of it's kind in Wales, has been developed as a partnership project between Caerphilly CBC and Bridgend CBC Sustainable Development  teams and youth services. It's been developed using features from other sustainable award scheme and will support youth groups delivering ESDGC action as part of the Estyn inspection process.

There are three levels to the award (bronze leaf, silver twig and gold tree), which are suitable for youth groups of any size. It is expected that each award level will take approximately 12 months to complete.

ESDGC - A Common Understanding for the Youth Work Sector

The ESDGC Common Understanding for the Youth Work sector is a guidance document developed by the Welsh Government to aid the development of ESDGC in the youth work sector.

The Common Understanding document should locate ESDGC core provision, woven into the fabric of practice, instead of project work isolated from other learning activities.

The youth service will find guidance on how to develop a robust, integrated approach to ESDGC within organisational delivery plans and institutional policies, finding the positive impact of embedding ESDGC, along with the challenges it can bring.
