Access Policy Statement

The Winding House is committed to removing the barriers often associated with traditional museums and heritage sites, which may prevent people making the best use of the services that we offer. People may experience many different barriers to access, such as organisational, physical, sensory, intellectual, cultural and financial and the Winding House will consult with users and non users to identify and tackle as many of these barriers as possible.  Access to the museum, its collections and its resources should be available to all.

Group Visits (15+)

We can a provide an engaging, illustrated talk to your group     No visit is complete without that all important tea or coffee! We offer 10% discount to groups on pre-booked refreshments  The historic winding engine may be run for special interest groups by prior arrangement - subject to the availability of our engine volunteer team

Dementia Friendly Visits

The Winding House is set to become Wales' first dementia friendly reminiscence centre, leading the way in creating a dementia supportive museum environment. We are the first public venue within the County Borough to host Rempods - pop up reminiscence rooms which evoke key places and periods of the past.

Public Transport

You can find information relating to all aspects of using public transport to get to the Winding house at Our postcode is NP24 6EG.

New Tredegar is served by the Penarth to Rhymney Arriva Trains Wales service. Alight at either Brithdir or Tirphil stations. The Winding House is a 10-15 minutes walk from either station.
