Pupils across Caerphilly #CelebratePE

28/06/2017

As National School Sports Week takes place across the country, children from schools in Caerphilly county borough have travelled to the Welsh capital to take part in the ‘Sport Caerphilly Legacy Games’.

Held at the National Indoor Athletics Centre (NIAC), 540 primary age pupils representing 36 schools from across the county borough attended the event.

Sport Caerphilly coaches and local community clubs delivered a wide variety of activities including taekwondo, tennis, badminton, athletics, hockey, rugby and basketball.

The event was attended by Cllr Dave Poole, Leader of Caerphilly County Borough Council and Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services.  Cllr George said “It is fantastic that pupils from all across the borough have been given a chance to take part in this fun event which encourages participation in sport.  The turnout was incredible.  The enjoyment and the effort of all the children who took part was evident.  I would like to give massive thank you and well done to the organisers of the event and to all the schools that took part”.

The event was planned to celebrate National School Sports Week, a campaign that has allowed millions of young people to take part in sporting events all across the country since it began in 2008.
