Sport Caerphilly launches Coach of the Future for 2017/18

Sport Caerphilly recently has recently launched the ‘Coach of the Future; programme for 2017/18 intake at Caerphilly Council’s headquarters, Penallta House.

The launch was hosted by a variety of speakers, including current and previous Coach of the Future candidates, which gave new entrants the opportunity to witness the development opportunities offered by the programme.

Now entering its tenth year, the Coach of the Future programme will mentor and support a total of 40 young coaches in the county borough with support and development into a pathway of lifelong involvement in sport through a variety of opportunities to obtain valuable skills.

All coaches selected to enter the programme have completed a level 2 Community Sport Leader Award alongside first aid and child welfare qualifications ahead of their placements at community clubs or school sport sessions.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “I am delighted that the Coach of the Future programme has returned for 2017/18. This programme provides fantastic opportunities for young coaches including coaching within school sport and local community clubs, assisting within the Physical Literacy Programme, completing the Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award and assisting with major events such as the Caerphilly 10k”.
