Success for Sport Caerphilly Sport Schemes

Sport Caerphilly are celebrating after record levels of young people throughout Caerphilly county borough attended their Sport Schemes over the summer period.

This summer, a total of 3,789 attendances were recorded at schemes and sessions provided by Caerphilly Council’s Community and Leisure Teams, with a total of 2,888 young people attending schemes at the 4 leisure sites; Caerphilly, Newbridge, Risca and Heolddu – a 50% increase on last year.

Sport Caerphilly also supported SHEP (School Holiday Enrichment Programme) which provides physical activity sessions as part of a structured timetable for pupils in deprived areas.

Cllr Nigel George, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services said: “I am delighted that so many young people have attended Sport Caerphilly’s Sport Scheme over the summer period. The sessions offer important physical activity during the summer holidays, keeping younger residents fit and active”.
